Early 1950s Canadian Pontiacs with Chevrolet Bodies

I grew up in Washington State, which borders Canada.  Therefore, I would occasionally see Canadian-built cars that looked different from their American counterparts.

In the case of Ford, those Canadian cars even had different brand names, as I wrote here.

General Motors' Pontiac brand took a different tack.  Those cars used Chevrolet bodies with considerable Pontiac trim during model years 1949-1954.  They were mechanically Chevrolets as well.  The main visual difference between USA and Canadian Pontiacs in those years was that the Canadian version used Chevrolet tail lights.  (For 1953 and '54, upscale Pontiac models had American taillights.)

Some examples are pictured below.  Unless noted, those cars are listed for sale.

Model-years 1948 through 1956 American Pontiacs had round taillights such as seen here.

The detachable rear fender is Chevrolet.  Note the chrome strip along the cut line.  Pontiac Silver Streaks are added to the trunk lid.

For 1951-52, Chevrolet rear fenders were like Pontiac's.  Nevertheless, this Canadian car has 1951 Chevy taillights.

Pontiacs and Chevrolets received new bodies derived from previous GM B-bodies.  This restored Pontiac has standard Pontiac trim seen from this angle.

Again, the taillights betray its Chevrolet origin.

Greetings from Chilliwack BC Canada. Just an additional note on the Pontiac styling. Canadian Pontiacs also had different grilles than our neighbour’s ponchos. We did get a US style dashboard adapted to the Chevy body. As well, not a style point but US cars had optional straight L8 engines while our Chevy based cars were limited to the Chevy straight L6
